Terms of Use

The plain version: this site is here to explain the program, take donations securely, and help students and mentors apply. These terms say how it may be used and what we do with what you send us.

Who we are

This website is operated by Take Stock in Children of Broward County, Inc., a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Registered Charity 84-4009513, at 11110 West Oakland Park Blvd #230, Sunrise, FL 33351. Throughout this page, "we", "us" and "the organization" mean Take Stock in Children of Broward County, Inc. "You" means anyone using this site.

Using this site

You are welcome to read, print and share anything here for personal, educational or charitable purposes. We ask that you do not:

  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that could damage or overload it.
  • Attempt to gain access to any part of the site, or to any account or data, that is not intended for you.
  • Copy our name, logo or materials in a way that suggests we endorse a product, service, candidate or organization when we do not.
  • Collect information about our students, mentors, staff or donors from this site, by any automated means or otherwise.
  • Upload anything containing a virus or other harmful code.

Content and ownership

The text, photographs, logo and design of this site belong to Take Stock in Children of Broward County, Inc. or to the people who licensed them to us. The Take Stock in Children name and mark are used under our affiliation with the statewide organization. You may quote or link to this site with attribution; please ask before republishing a photograph or reproducing a page in full.

Donations

  • Where your money goes. Donations support scholarships, mentoring and college and career coaching for Broward County students. Scholarship donations are matched dollar for dollar by the Florida Prepaid Project STARS Scholarship Program, subject to that program's annual cap.
  • Tax deductibility. Your contributions are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. We will send a receipt for every gift. We cannot give you tax advice; please speak with your own advisor.
  • How payments are handled. Donations are processed by a third-party payment provider. We never see or store your full card or bank details. That provider's own terms and privacy policy apply to the payment itself.
  • Recurring gifts. A monthly gift continues until you cancel it. You can stop or change it at any time by contacting us at the address below, and we will confirm in writing.
  • Mistakes. If you give in error or the amount is wrong, tell us within 30 days and we will refund it. Beyond that we will do what we reasonably can, but scholarship funds are often already committed to a student.

Students, mentors and applications

Applications submitted through this site — the scholar application, the mentor application and the teacher recommendation form — are handled by third-party form providers and go directly to our staff. We use what you send to determine eligibility, to run the screening every mentor must complete, and to contact you about your application.

  • Our scholars are minors. Applicants are in grades 6 through 10. A parent or legal guardian should complete or supervise any application, and we ask for a guardian's signature before a student is enrolled.
  • We do not publish student information. We do not post a scholar's name, photograph or personal details without written permission from the student and their guardian, and that permission can be withdrawn at any time.
  • Mentors are screened. Every mentor completes a Broward County Public Schools volunteer application, a fingerprinting session and a Level 2 clearance before being matched with a student. Applying does not guarantee placement.
  • Income documentation. Documents uploaded to verify eligibility are used only for that purpose and are shared only with the staff and selection committee who need them.

Privacy, in outline

We collect only what you give us — your name, contact details, and anything you include in a form or a donation — plus ordinary website analytics that tell us which pages are read. We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We share it only with the service providers who help us operate (payment processing, email, form handling), with the statewide Take Stock in Children organization and Florida Prepaid where a scholarship requires it, and where the law requires it of us. You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, correct it, ask us to delete it, or unsubscribe from our mail.

This site links out to our application forms, our donation platform, Broward County Public Schools, Florida Prepaid and news coverage about our students. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their handling of your information. Their terms apply once you leave ours.

What we can and cannot promise

We keep this site as accurate as we can, and we correct mistakes when we find them. Program details — eligibility criteria, deadlines, match amounts and enrollment dates — change from year to year, and the version on this site may not be the version in force when you read it. Nothing here is a promise of admission to the program, of a scholarship, of a mentor placement, or of a particular scholarship amount. Selection is made by our committee, and scholarship funding depends on donations and on the Florida Prepaid match.

This site is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of it, and our responsibility for any claim connected with this site is limited to the amount you paid us, if anything, in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the current version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts sitting in Broward County, Florida.
