Who qualifies, what to submit, and how scholars are selected.
Take Stock in Children of Broward Scholar recruitment is limited to a select number of Broward County students each year, and varies from year-to-year. We accept applications year round, but enroll three times a year (September, December and March). Applicants must meet all criteria listed below and only complete applications will be considered for selection. Selected students will receive a Florida Prepaid College Tuition Scholarship, one-on-one mentoring, and college and career coaching.

Students must be in grades 6 through 10.
Must have maintained a “C” or better in all classes within the past year.
No more than ten (10) unexcused absences per semester within the past year.
No more than one (1) in-school suspension per quarter and no (0) out-of-school suspensions within the past year.
Must qualify financially for free and/or reduced lunch based upon USDA income eligibility guidelines.
Must be either a United States citizen or a resident alien with permanent social security number and NOT a temporary ID.
Must be enrolled in a Florida school and be on track to receive a standard high school diploma. The following steps must be completed to be considered for the TSIC program:

To qualify under this standard, students must have an official documentation from the U.S. Department of HUD indicating that family is currently receiving HUD benefits naming student as a household beneficiary or be verified (through a review of their current year filed IRS Tax Form 1040) as income eligible based on the HUD Income Eligibility Chart.
Students must be a recipient of Florida Medicaid services. To qualify under this standard, students must currently be receiving services (through a review of their Florida Medicaid benefits) and must provide official documentation for eligibility from the Department of Children and Families (DCF) or the Social Security Administration (for SSI recipients).
Letter from State of Florida indicating that family or foster child has been approved to receive SNAP benefits, and names of household beneficiaries (the student applicant’s name should be listed as part of household on the document). The date of eligibility for benefits indicated on the letter should align with the date of the TSIC application (i.e., the student should be eligible to receive SNAP benefits at the time of TSIC application).
If taxes are not filed, the following documents will serve as proof of FRL eligibility:
Letter from State of Florida indicating that family has been approved to receive TANF benefit and names of household beneficiaries (the student applicant’s name should be listed as part of household on the document). The date of eligibility for benefits indicated on the letter should align with the application date for the TSIC program (i.e., the student should be eligible to receive TANF benefits at the time of TSIC application).
Proof that the student is in Foster Care (currently active as a foster care student during the application period of TSIC).
Signed document on school district letterhead, from the School district’s Homeless Liaison, verifying in writing that the student is homeless and qualifies for free/reduced lunch.
Eligible students submit completed application by the deadline stated on the application. ONLY FULLY COMPLETED APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED WITH ALL THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION WILL BE CONSIDERED.
Applications that meet qualifications are sent to a Selection Committee, comprised of community advocates and leaders, for review and selection.
Applicants who are not selected for the program will receive a notification letter in the mail/email
Selected “Scholars” will be sent an acceptance letter with a date for the mandatory New Student Orientation.
Selected “Scholars” and their legal guardians attend mandatory New Student Orientation to review all the details of the program and then both parties, along with TSIC, sign the contract to finalize the application and acceptance process.
