TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN OF BROWARD COUNTY WELCOMES AMERICORPS VISTA MEMBER
Take Stock in Children (TSIC) of Broward is pleased to have partnered with AmeriCorps through TSIC, INC. to host a VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) member over the next year.
The VISTA, Kristin Pollard, joined TSIC Broward on September 12th, 2016. Miss Pollard, is a native from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Health Education and was part of the Division 1 women's soccer team program at the University of Central Arkansas. Miss Pollard relocated to South Florida in 2015 to pursue her Master's of Social Work at Barry University.
As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, Miss Pollard will be committed to TSIC’s mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. She has made a year-long, full-time commitment to serve and focus her efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of TSIC of Broward. Through these efforts Miss Pollard will ensure that low-income students in Broward County break the cycle of poverty through education.
“The goal of the VISTA program is to alleviate poverty in local communities, through capacity building and community empowerment. VISTAs work to strengthen the programs they are serving, leaving these programs stronger than before,” said Amanda Frey, Executive Director for Take Stock in Children of Broward County. “We are delighted to have Miss Pollard on our Take Stock in Children of Broward team. She truly believes in the importance of our mission and the value of this program to improve the lives of our TSIC students through education and support.”
About Take Stock in Children
Take Stock in Children, a Florida 501(c)3 non-profit organization, provides mentors, scholarships and hope for Florida’s low-income and deserving students. Incorporated in 1995 and maintaining a 96 percent high school graduation rate, TSIC is Florida’s flagship and most successful mentoring and scholarship program. In every Florida county, TSIC scholars in middle and high school pledge to meet regularly with their mentor, maintain academic standards, and remain drug and crime-free on the way to achieving a high school diploma. The reward for fulfilling these commitments is a scholarship to a Florida state college, university or vocational school.
