Take Stock in Children of Broward Successfully Continues to “Change a Life Over Lunch”
Annual Luncheon Raises Funds for Scholarships
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – On Wednesday, March 10th, Take Stock in Children of Broward’s Corporate Council hosted their 2nd Annual “Change a Life Over Lunch” fundraising event. The Old Davie School Historical Museum served as an ideal backdrop for guests to reminisce of their days in grade school while learning about the impact Take Stock in Children is having in the Broward Community.
TSIC Scholar Jordan Perbtani spoke of his mentor, Anthony Thompson, and of how he has changed his life over lunch, “Anthony is someone who has inspired me, supported me, and pushed me to become who I am, and continues to do so. I strive every day to one day be as great as he is. Without a doubt in my mind, he is the mentor and friend I needed to not only survive in high school, but flourish in life.” Anthony, who has mentored six students over the last 15 years, was recognized as Take Stock in Children of Broward’s Mentor of the Year.
TSIC also recognized their Community Partner of the Year – Broward County Public Schools. For the last twenty years, the district has partnered with Take Stock in Children to serve Broward’s most vulnerable youth. The district has championed TSIC’s efforts and has provided priceless resources and in-kind support. School Board Member Laurie Rich Levinson accepted the award on the district’s behalf.
With over 200 guests the “Change a Life Over Lunch” event was a huge success, raising $85,000! The funds raised from this event will be matched dollar for dollar by the Stanley G. Tate Florida Prepaid Foundation and will be applied toward scholarships for our newest incoming scholars. “In addition to scholarships, these students will receive mentoring and college readiness services to enhance their guaranteed post-educational opportunity” explains Executive Director, Amanda Frey. “We thank all of our sponsors, donors, and supporters for being an active force of change in the Broward community.
